Adoption Information
The WMASS volunteers work very hard to find good, permanent, loving homes for the adoptable animals in our care. Anyone interested in adopting an animal from our facility is required to fill out a pre-adoption form on-site before viewing any animals. If you rent, bring your lease that shows proof you are allowed to have pets.
Dogs are tested for heartworm (and treated if necessary), and cats are tested for feline leukemia and FIV. Both dogs and cats are de-wormed and are up to date on distemper and rabies shots.
All ADULT dogs and cats are spayed or neutered before leaving our facility. Puppies and kittens require a $50.00 surgical deposit at adoption time. The deposit is returned to the new owner when veterinary proof of spay/neuter is provided to us by the adopter.
Adoption Fees
- Dogs or Puppies $100.00 (Most dogs benefit from crate training. We generally recommend that you purchase a suitable crate for your new canine at any local pet supplier.)
- Cats or Kittens $35.00 (Adopters needing safe transportation for their new felines can purchase cardboard cat carriers at the shelter for $4 each.)
- When we have Rabbits up for adoption, they are first vetted and spayed/neutered; the adoption fee is $10 each.
Please note: We only accept cash or personal checks. No debit or credit cards. There is a $25 fee for returned checks.
Spay/Neuter Information
Surgical Deposit: For all unaltered animals, a $50.00 deposit will be returned when copy of spay/neuter certificate is presented to WMASS.
Note: Low cost spay/neuter certificates, redeemable at local veterinarians, are available for sale at the shelter for cats only. The certificate price for a female cat spay is $110. The certificate price for a male cat neuter is $55. Certificates can only be purchased during our posted visiting hours.
