The West Milford Animal Shelter Society (WMASS) will once again hold its annual Dog Walk at Wawayanda State Park, Hewitt, NJ, on Sunday, Sept. 17, 2023, from 11:00am to 2:00pm.
The annual event, which began 25-plus years ago, features a pleasant lake-view stroll along Wawayanda’s scenic trails and prizes awarded to contest winners for the “best costume” adorned by pups and people, “best doggie kisser”, and “best dog trick”. A mid-day dog training demonstration will be conducted by Canine Cooperative.
The WMASS Dog Walk is open to the public for a suggested donation of $10.00 per dog; people are free. Tickets are available at the event or in advance at the Shelter and from WMASS volunteers.
A sponsor-provided “Big Prize Raffle” for donor attendees is new to the annual WMASS Dog Walk. Prizes ranging from free dog grooming and kennel boarding to valuable dog-themed gift baskets and veterinarian gift-card supplied by these local-area businesses: Ellie’s Grooming, StoneHill Estates Kennel, TYCO Animal Control Services, West Milford Animal Hospital, and the town’s State Farm Insurance Agency, which now offers pet insurance.
Additional raffle prizes available to attendees include custom jewelry by West Milford’s Jenti Jewelers. WMASS will provide goodie bags for all dogs, water and snacks, and dog treats. Shelter merchandise will be available for purchase.
“Our Dog Walk at Wawayanda is a fun experience for both pups and people,” said Paul Laycox, WMASS President. “It’s a terrific opportunity to bring our community together and take-in the Park’s beauty. Dogs and family enjoy a new environment, make some new friends, gain valuable dog training tips, and possibly win some exciting prizes.”
As an all-volunteer organization with no personnel costs, WMASS relies on donations to operate the Shelter and benefit the animals in its care. WMASS is a non-profit charity recognized as tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) with the IRS and all donations are 100% tax deductible.
